We collect information during the course purchase process as well as information relating to your course progression and any quiz or assessment performance.

When you purchase a course from SHMS Advantage, we'll ask you to provide your email address. This is so that we can:

  • Send you relevant information about your account and order.
  • Create your account for our site.

If you register for a free account then we will store your email address.

We store information about you for as long as your account exists.

We store course progress, including completion status, quiz scores, assignments and submissions (if applicable).

We will also store comments on courses, lessons, topics and assignments if you choose to leave them.

Who on our team has access

Only administrators and Group Leaders in our team have access to the information you provide us. This means Administrators and Group Leaders have access to your enrolled courses, course progress and username/email address. Any additional information you add in your WordPress user profile can be visible to the Administrator(s).

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

When submitting information to SHMS via a contact form, we will collect any data and contact details you submit to us. We may keep contact form submissions for a certain period of time in order to get back to you about your enquiry, but this data is never used for marketing purposes.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about web page traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. SHMS Advantage uses Google Analytics to track our website analytics. Google Analytics uses cookies to track data. We use the Analytics, Ads and Remarketing features of Google Analytics. This means first-party and third-party cookies are in use on our website. These are designed to optimise your usage of our site based on your past activity. These will not be used for marketing purposes.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

We use Google Analytics, MailChimp and PayPal as our external services which means any relevant data you share with us is submitted to these external services (for example your email address is shared to MailChimp, and your payment details are shared with PayPal). We will not use your details for marketing purposes unless you opt-in to receive marketing from us. You will be able to opt-in and opt-out of receiving marketing at any time.

We accept payments through PayPal. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to PayPal, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information.
